LB Sam Eguavoen Re-Signs with Jets

Sixth-Year Defender Primarily Played on Special Teams in 2024

The Jets have re-signed linebacker Sam Eguavoen.

Eguavoen (6-0, 236) signed with New York last offseason and appeared in 15 games, playing 62.9% (305) of the special teams snaps, the third-most on the team.

In the Jets' 31-21 win against Denver in Week 5, recovered a fumble on special teams. In addition, Eguavoen played 14 snaps on defense and recorded 4 tackles.

Eguavoen, 31, went undrafted in 2015 and played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL from 2016-18. The Texas Tech product then signed with Miami in 2019 and played the four seasons for the Dolphins.

During his rookie year, Eguavoen registered a career-high 42 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss. In 2021, during a Week 18 win against the Patriots, he recovered a fumble in the end zone on the final play of the game for his first career touchdown. He's played in 71 career games and has 75 tackles, 4 sacks, 16 QB hits, 3 fumble recoveries and 2 pass defenses.

The signing of Eguavoen gives the Jets 91 players on their active roster. The Jets received an exemption on the roster for international player Obinna Eze, who signed with the team in December 2023. Eze, 25, is a native of Lago, Nigeria.
